Yesterday we put a call in for more oil...that stuff goes surprisingly fast!  Then we took a walk in the snow to Henry's Market for some provisions.  Dog food, garbage bags, a paper... the likely stuff.  But then we also got grilled smoked turkey, havarti and pesto sandwiches, some homemade red onion jelly with local goat cheese and crackers for later, and wine,  Not bad for blizzard fare.

With electricity, Internet and heat all cranking away, we count ourselves lucky souls.

  2. Hey Barb---how are the holidays going at your house? I hope you have a nice long break from work. I hear Clare talking to Johnny regularly and I hope we get to see him before he goes back to school. We are chilly but still cheery here.

  3. Rain, rain and more rain. The 85-pound, long-haired dog, Henry, is a little too delicate to go out to pee by himself so we have to take him out. He comes in wet and everything smells earthy and slightly dirty.

Johnny has three projects going and he's spending two hours a day on each one so he's in his room a lot. He's wearing his new watch from Clare, meeting Ingrid for lunch some days and seeing a friend here and there.

I've cooked more in the last week than I have in the last three months, feeling a bit like a farm wife. I even made crusty Italian bread from scratch, plus, of course, meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Since schools ended, I've read People Like Us by Dominic Dunne, I Don't Remember Anything by Nora Ephron (the best line is something like "a senior moment is now a Google opportunity"), Heat (about Mario Batali sort of) and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, a book that Clare should read when she has room in her life for extra books.

Do you need any book reviews for your blog?

I'm addicted to the pictures you're putting up....feel cheated when you miss the occasional day.

    Love to all, stay warm.

  4. Of course, send along any guest blogger posts! I made meatloaf and roasted brussels sprouts tonight..I know what you mean about being a farm wife. In my case, it's laundry. Lots and lots of laundry.
