We met Clare and Johnny in Cambridge for lunch the other day, and after lunch Clare took us next door to her favorite chocolate store, L.A. Burdick for their famous sipping chocolate. What an amazing store. This one may interest you out-of-towners because they have a website and mail order business. If you need a special gift, this is the place to check out.
The packaging is really special and the chocolate assortments look gorgeous. The sipping chocolate was incredible. Their chocolate drink menu includes 'single origin' hot chocolates like the Equadorian or the Bolivian. They're served hot or iced. There aren't enough superlatives to describe this place! Check out the website, (click here) it's worth it. I just signed up for their catalog. This wonderful business was born in Walpole NH. Their flagship store is there, as well as a restaurant. They have a branch in NYC as well. This is just one more example of the kind of enterprise that flourishes here in New England. Johnny put it perfectly when he said that they represent the drive to do things in the finest way possible. They seem to be driven by personal passion rather than profit. Our visit to this place trumped another fine chocolatier that I've been meaning to blog about. We wanted to visit with the kids over the holiday but they were closed. It's right over the bridge in Kittery Me. Stay tuned, we'll see how it compares to L.A. Burdick.
