A day in the Square

I spent the day with Clare in Cambridge yesterday. The weather gods smiled on us and it was a brilliant warm day.  Now that the days are getting nicer we're going to try to make it a weekly event since she has no classes on Fridays and she's graduating so soon.
In the Eliot courtyard.  Clare told me that earlier a heavy wooden bench that had graced the courtyard for decades had been smashed to smithereens by a massive chunk of falling ice.  By the time I got there it was all cleared away.  Good PR move.
This looks spare, but she and her roommate have their own bedrooms, a huge common room, their own hallway and their own bathroom.  3 closets, too!   Of course you have to walk up 4 flights of slate stairs, 5 if you're doing laundry.
She's working on a pair of custom mittens for Johnny...he wanted Droid friendly removable thumb-caps.  The things we'll do for love.
Clare chose Harvest for lunch because they're known for menus based on local seasonal ingredients and she's never been before.
She had Parsnip soup with creme fraiche and cocoa nibs (!)
And winter vegetable risotto.
I had a burger on a brioche bun-- I guess they're always in season.  But I do know the Vermont farms where my cow lived, my cheese was aged,  and the bacon cured.  Pretty cool.  BTW it's just the angle that makes my lunch look so humongous ;)
See you next week!
