One man's trash

Every first apartment worth its salt contains the results of one or two dumpster dives. Washington DC seems to have a decent amount of 'good' garbage, which is probably a result of all the transitory residents. From the disappointment of a Louis Vuitton travel bag (ripped) to the cute and useful side table and plant stand, to the totally unexpected Papasan chair frame sitting on the curb as we turned the corner onto a cute little street in Georgetown, we've been pretty lucky.

The chair needs a cushion and some tlc, but nothing a little duct tape won't fix. We'll pick up a cushion on clearance today at Pier I, and grab some spray primer and paint to work on the other pieces.

Papasan chairs may look like alien life forms or rejects from a fraternity basement, but seriously, have you ever sat in one of these?  If you have, you will know that these babies have no need for good looks. Sink down into it and you're instantly at one with the universe.

The elevator in the building is broken today, so we had to lug the very large frame up 6 flights.
Still worth it.  :)

What about you---do you dumpster dive?

  1. we rarely if ever dumpster dive anymore but contribute a fair amount to our curb for other's to enjoy. We always place a "FREE" sign and the object is hauled away within an hour or two max. Enjoy the Papasan- we are loving ours!
