A guest in my own town

Our island has no electricity so we're holed up in a hotel in Portsmouth.  It's very festive as residents from all over the seacoast who don't have power are converging on Portsmouth hotels.  Lots of kids in their pajamas and/or Halloween costumes.

Here are a few more sights from Parent's Weekend in Williamstown; I tried to capture the strange beauty of an October snow.  That's all I've got right now.  Looking forward to home...although, as I'm heading down to the lobby for another cup of coffee, I could get used to this!

  1. Hello Sue:
The snow reports that we have seen make such alarming viewing and we are so sorry to hear that you have been driven out of your home by a lack of electricity. But, how magical these images look. The snow really does make everything look like Wonderland, but not such an adventure when all one really wants is to be warm at home. Take care!

  3. It seems a little early for snow!
It really does have a magical feel to it and you have captured the beauty so well.
I hope that the power authority fixes the electrics soon so that you can be back on your island snug in your home.

  4. Gorgeous photos. Its amazing to think with all this snowy beauty came more than a million power outages in New England.

  7. Thanks all, the power is restored and I'm back home. Although, once again, we're going to have to completely empty our fridge :/

I agree with Bourbon & Pearls, the new snow was beautiful, and we were thinking that for the students, who basically have all their needs taken care of so that they can concentrate on being students, it doesn't have the same significance that it does for people who have to get to work through it, shovel it, and empty fridges because of it. Good for them, they can appreciate it for its beauty, although I really hope a few of them are studying up on the causes and effects of global climate change!!!

  12. Oh! Wonderful snow! That first fall always looks so delightful, despite lack of power and the infrastructure not coping. Glad to hear your home with electricity again.

  14. These shots are all so beautiful...I know it's causing havoc, but that last shot especially-- the beautiful fall leaf on a glistening blanket of snow...go figure. A parent's weekend you'll never forget! You are a wonderful photographer...I keep going back and taking another look!

  16. Your photos are picture postcard perfect. It sounds like you are enjoying the unplanned portion of the weekend :-). I'm told roads are clear, bu tmy daughter in CT is still without power and says its warmer outside than in the house. Drive safely and stay warm. Blessings...Mary

  17. These pictures are absolutely beautiful, Sue! You live in a winter wonderland as far as I am concerned. I told my husband that I was hoping to get snowed in at our cabin this year and he laughed at me. My boys have never seen snow fall and I've never been snowbound in my life.

My husband (having grown up on the canadian border) does not share the same illusions. I still think it will be fun! It's our first year to have it furnished and livable and we're planning to spend 2 full weeks there for the holiday break.

I'll really just be thrilled if it snows even a tiny bit! Glad you survived a crazy night last night too. Enjoy a more peaceful night tonight!
