After a little poking around, we found their recipe online here. There's no sugar in this at all, just pure chocolate and milk. I used Green & Black's 72% baking chocolate.
Drinking Chocolate ~~~inspired by Burdick's
2 servings
1 ½ cups milk (whole or lowfat)
2 heaping teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ cup ground dark chocolate (use fine, high quality chocolate that has 60% or more cocoa content)
freshly ground nutmeg (or cinnamon, cardamom. or chocolate shavings)
creme fraiche (or whipped cream)
- Heat milk to just simmering.
- Take it off the heat and whisk in the cocoa powder and ground chocolate. Continue whisking until the chocolate completely dissolves. This will take a few minutes. Put it back on the heat if necessary.
Grab your coziest sweater and a good book.
oh mannnnnnnn!!!! xxx i love green and blacks, i use their cocoa xx
ReplyDeletemmmh. Did you ever notice that chocolate becomes electrostatic (hope this is the right word) when you ground it? The chocolate flakes start flying across the worktop, very akward!
ReplyDeleteI have the feeling Mr Paula deserved such a hot chocolate. mmmmmh. Thank you for posting the photos. They provide almost a 3D-experience including the heavenly scent!
Today is the first snowfall where I am this winter so your post is perfectly timed. I'm off to make hot chocolate right now!

ReplyDeleteYum. When we lived in Kansas City, I was downtown every day with other moms waiting for our girls go get out of ballet rehearsals. We hit so many great shops and restaurants so I can relate! It was wonderful not to drive anymore when we moved to Houston but I miss those times!
ReplyDeleteNow you've tempted me and my plain black coffee is no longer as appealing as it was five minutes ago :-). I must try this. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
