Another new beginning

I found this lovely Russian egg inside a 49 cent thrift store vase, and the nest by the side of the road.

We got confirmation last week that my husband's new job will require us to move back to Los Angeles.  It all came together in an incredibly short period of time, and they need him there asap, so we have been madly packing up and getting mentally as well physically ready to make the cross country trek for the second time in just over 18 months.
We're going to stop in Williamstown MA to see our youngest daughter on the way out of New England, and then down to see our oldest in DC.  From there we'll head west.  I'm posting our route on google maps, below, because I was hoping that some of you who live along the route, or who have visited there yourselves, could steer us to some fun places to stay, or eat.  If I did it right you should be able to enlarge and manipulate the map.  We're going to try to make the best of a stressful situation and have a little fun along the way---leave me a comment if you have any suggestions!

In the meantime between packing and organizing our move I'll be using up food and posting a few recipes.  I'll post a bit from the road, and hopefully we'll find a place in Los Angeles quickly and I'll continue the blog from a new kitchen.  I could wax poetic about leaving this amazing place, but I will have plenty of time to do that...

Happy Easter!

  7. Oh my goodness, what a huge move. I hope you have an enjoyable journey and enjoy the visits with your children. As someone who doesn't really know the US, (California twice, and Hawaii once) I look forward to learning more about it through your travel, and of course to your new kitchen in LA.

  9. Big moves always seem stressful as well as exhausting and I hope things settle into place for you quickly.

I think both California and New England are among the loveliest places in the US, you have been very fortunate to be able to experience both! Safe travels!

  14. Praying for as peaceful a transition as is possible. I was giddy for a moment, thinking that you might be stopping through MY area to visit local family! No such luck though. I bet my odds are higher for meeting you now though.

Looking forward to some great posts from the road. Good luck with everything you'll be tackling soon!

  17. Best of luck on the move! Who knows what adventures you will have on the way? What foods you will eat? What stresses you will "let go of?" Love your first stop - Williamstown - one of my favorite places in the world.

  19. Sue,
I can't wait to hear about your travels...such a long way. We've thought about making that trip, but it's just so long. Not sure what part of Denver you'll be in, but the Washington Park area is beautiful. Not far from Downtown. The Brown Palace is one historic hotel I would recommend, but it has been a long time since I stayed there. Oh and for breakfast or lunch check out Vert Kitchen.
    Safe travels!

  20. So happy for you... and selfishly saddened for those of us near by you now. Always secretly imagined a coffee klatch brunch within the lovely creative kitchen you've posted from. Ah, life! I will be content to view your postings from LA as post cards from a friend! Enjoy the adventure.
    Cheers to you both.
